The difference between dream and ambition.

The difference between dream and ambition.

Jul 26, 2019 | Posted by Nicole, Claudia en Pim | Ambition, Balans, Leadership, Leiderschap, By Nicole Loeffen | 0 comments |

Dreaming is something we all do. Around six years of our life I read recently. You can read a lot about the meaning of your dreams, starting with spiritual meaning from ancient tribes unto modern scientific research. Many dreams are about fear, lack of something/someone or deep desires in your subconscious mind, and you are processing your experiences during dreaming as well. Your dream is a fantasy world in which everything is possible. I sometimes dream that I can fly, the meaning can be to look at something from another perspective. You have no control over your dreams, they simply appear to you. Sometimes you can remember then, sometimes not.

Daydreaming is something we all do as well. We escape from reality and let our fantasy take over, by closing down specific parts of our brain and activate others like the problemsolving parts in our brain. It takes only a view minutes and seems longer. You can daydream about something you really like, a new job, an interesting assignment, a nice trip or meeting a special person. Or you investigate the outcomes of different options during your daydreaming. The question is, will you stick to daydreaming now and then or do you remember your daydream and bring it into action in real life?

An ambition occurs if you transform a daydream into a wish, a goal you like to achieve. Many times, we associate ambition with promotion, more power, success and money. Please be aware that other goals are possible as well and not less ambitious. A personal example; around 15 years ago I was sitting in an ambition workshop and discovered a deep desire to work as an independent professional. My desire was to bring more happiness and success in my own life and adding value to others by guiding them to achieve the same. In my well-paid job, I felt tied up to do so. The picture of what I wanted was so clear and the feeling that came with it so strong that I had to bring it into action.

These action means starting with small steps that lead into the right direction, making other choices than before, realize small ambitions that bring you closer to the big ambitious goal. For 10 years already I am very happy and successful as an independent professional focussing on adding value to others in increasing their happiness and success.

For sure keep daydreaming to make it even more perfect as it is already and identify some new ambitions. Because I like to get the most out of myself and every second in real life.

Thanks for reading. Enjoy your daydreaming and please share your ambition when one pops up that is worth sharing. I am willing to listen!
